check firingsquad, the did a quick look for different cards and resolutions.
It will depend on what resolution you run at.
I run Oblivion at 1680x1050 and this casued me to go from a 7800gtx to 7800gtx SLI. The cards are both clocked at 490/1250.

you should be fine running that resolution with high settings. 16x10 is another matter.

Totally unrelated, but can you run Oblivion maxed out with a stock 7900GT at 1280x1024 native resolution (I am getting a Viewsonic VX922 and upgrading my system, mostly to play Oblivion)

Not having Oblivion yet, I am not familiar with all of its settings.I guess it depends on what you mean by 'maxed out' and 'run'. It should be able to run but if you max out/turn on grass shading and the grass draw distance (for example) that it would significatnly drag down your fps. a stock 7900gt (you need to specify the stock speeds) should perform a bit better than my ocd 7800gt, but not with all that maxed. I guess it would also matter if you go with HDR vs Bloom+AA (i'm doing Bloom + 4xAA)
