Rebuilding my Dell 8400 using everything except new 2.5 GHz CPU and a "cheap" PCIe Video Card. Socket is 775. Plug it in and get 4 long(ish) beeps, then a brief pause then 2 more. I look up beep codes, and I see Award BIOS etc...but nothing for Dell. Need to find out type of BIOS Dell uses...or is it just Dell Rev A08?

Have reseated Video Card at least 3 times.
 
use the old cpu, go to dell and download the new bios, run the flash and reboot, shutdown and install the new cpu.
 
I would not try updating the BIOS until you resolve the error.

On the back of the PC, how many of the green lights are green and
how many are amber lit if any?

Does the 2.5GHz CPU happen to be a MOBILE processor?
If not, is a Celeron?

Did you CLEAR the BIOS after installing the CPU?
