I am desperate. I have not gotten much sleep the last 2 night due to this wicked soar throat. I can take the sniffles and congestion, but I just can't get to sleep with a soar throat. I have tried the soar throat losanges, but nothing seems to bring much relief.

Any home remedies out there? :(

You could try a spray like Chloraseptic. It tastes kinda bad, but it usually makes the pain go away for me.

A friend told me to try a few drops of Tobasco sauce----said it works for him. I always eat crushed ice to kind of numb it.

A soar throat? Maybe if you clipped it's wings? ;)

Try eating some honey. It has natural antibiotics, and it tastes good!

This taste bad, but it has worked for me. Either chew and grind up 2 asprin, and swallow them slowly. Taste like yuk, but it has worked for me in the past.

Haven't tried the Vaporub.

I have a bottle of the Vicks Chloraseptic Spray (cool mint), but it doesn't seem to help that much....

gargling (spell?) salt water will help

Hmmm. How much salt to water? Hot or cold water?

My mother-in-law suggests gargling w/ Hydrogen Peroxide.

Isn't that something that's only intended to be outside your body, not in your mouth?

Try drinking honey with boiling hot water (wait for the water to cool - don't drink it boiling hot obviously). For me it tastes nasty but it's always worked. Also what about your environment, do people smoke around you, do you smoke, allergic to anything? Try and preserve your voice.

No smokie, no allergies.

Are you saying mix honey with water, boil it, and then drink after it cools?

is this from the flu ??

gargling w/ mouthwash will help too
& my gf gets me these chinese cough syrups - you just mix them w/ warm water & drink it.
It always helps.

I would think he means let it cool to the point so you won't burn yourself, but keep it hot - hot is better for your throat

The saltwater gargles do seem to help, if you can stand it. I've always thought if you have an extremely bad sore throat (sometimes referred to as "the mother of all sore throat pain") you might have strep throat, for which you will need antibiotics. See the doc, or call at least?

Boil water.
Pour water into cup, add honey (1 or 2 teaspoons) then stir.
Drink while hot but don't burn your throat.

Nope---it certainly won't hurt you.

Wrap your throat with a towel or scarf before you go to bed.

It should help reduce the time it takes to get over your sore throat.

Salt water can be hard to swallow. So what I have done in the past is to take a cucumber, put salt on it, and eat it. Much easier to swallow IMHO. Also, you might pick up some Vitamin C Lozenges. They are usually orange flavored which is good cause changing the taste in your mouth helps. Plus, the extra vitamin intake couldn't hurt either.

I went through this a while back, I posted about it... the "Sore throat from hell" post. Only thing that helped me was come codeine throat elixer and a few days of time.

If it's REAL bad like mine was, try to get the codeine stuff, otherwise just try some hot tea and honey and a little will power to endure pain. I chickened out and got the codeine stuff. I'm weak willed towards pain. :)

I usually make a cup of tea that is 1/4 lemon juice, 3/4 water, and a teaspoon of honey. Works every time. Tastes like hell, though.
