Allright, unfortunately I have a job that keeps me away from home for most of the day. I gotta wake up at 6am to catch a train to NY and on good days I don't come home till 9pm. Unfortunately this keeps me from going to the gym most of the time so I can't do proper exercises with free weights and machines. Is there any exercise I can do at home that'll build my legs (specifically my calf) muscles decently? Running doesn't build them so much as tones them. I actually want to make them stronger. Does jump rope work?

find a step
stand on the step on just your toes, so that most of your foot is hanging off
go down then up on just your toes

put your toes on the edge of a step and stand up to your tiptoes then go all the way down, repeat multiple times. about 3 sets of 10 or so

feel the burn

Stand on the stairs one foot at a time, with only the front of your foot actually on the stair. Raise up and down on it... then switch foot. Also, walk everywhere (in the house) on almost tip-toes.

all the same basically

but now wrist excersizes, those can hurt.

get a wooden rod, tie a 5lb weight to it, and try to wrap the string around the rod by just using your wrists it frickin hard

Heh unfortunately my house is only 1 story. but i'm sure I could find a raised surface somewhere. thanks for the tips. Also, I wasn't aware cycling built up the calves. guess i'm gonna have to pull my mountain bike out of mothballs... hurts the crotch tho. gotta get used to that :(

If you do the raised surface things, grab some weights too to emulate that machine in the gym.

Goes up to 200 lbs

To get the type of weights you need to stress your calves is hard. If you can't use a machine (even those usually are not high weight), climb a lot of stairs.
