Any help on why my Linksys 4-port router slows my connection down?

Hey guys:

I'm using Roadrunner.

I have connected to quite a few bandwidth speed test sites, and I am consistently getting about 250 kbps when going through my Linksys BEFSR41.

When I disconnect and plug directly in to my cable modem, I consistently get over 500 kbps.

Any ideas on what's wrong?

Have you installed the latest firmware for that? That particular router has some firmware/hardware issues. Some people get it some don't. I went thru 2 of those routers then got tired and got a Netgear. The one port Linksys is more reliable when you use an external hub/switch to it.There were instances in one of mine (the 4-port) where using more than one PC cuts off the rest or slows them down to a crawl. If the firmware update doesn't work, try an external hub/switch and if it still doesn't work, try exchanging it for another or RMA it.
