Hi all,
I'm trying to convince win 7 64 bit pro to use an old canon multipass f30 printer installed on an xp sp3 machine. My vista 32 bit laptop has done this pretty painlessly, but I can't seem to find a 64bit driver for this old mfp. Does anyone know of a compatible print driver that I can point win7 to?

Thanks,
Jim

If the printer has aqny Vista drivers availible it should work fine. But if you managed to get it working on Vista with some generic drivers then you may not be able to get it working. From what i see there are no drivers for Vista or Win7 for that model so your out of luck. Its great that you had it working on Vista. You got lucky there. But if you want to have a printer both computer can use you'll need to buy a new printer that will support Win7 and XP. Which is any new printer availible now.

See Vista and Win7 changed the way drivers are used. So older XP drivers won't work on them. Atthe same time manufactures don't want to spend the time and money to develop new drivers for older products when they can just get you to buy a new item. Now you may be able to find some sort of third party driver but i doubt it.

Actually, I tried the S600 print drivers from windows update which now allows me to print (can't scan though). The s600 was listed as one of the other printers that my ink cartridges are compatible with. I fought with this for a few hours, and finally got a google search that mentioned a similar tactic for other multifunction printers. Maybe this will help somebody else if they're trying to use old printers with new OSes.

Edit:
It seems my post total has been truncated a little bit since the change to the new message board. It appears I'm averaging ~ 1.5 posts/year.

I share two printers between 3 computers - one XP, one Vista, and one Win 7. The printers are installed in each computer as network printers. Theae are both "older" printers, a HP Laserjet 4000 and a Deskjet 6980.

The problem was that during install of the network printer under Win7, it could not find a compatible driver to allow me to print. Canon simply wants you to buy a new printer rather than provide updated drivers (the fp30 has never had drivers for xp64, vista, or win7). You have to use a 64bit driver for a completely different printer (but in the same family?) to get it to work in win7.
