If so any good brands/models to be recommended.

Money is not an issue (well within reason), and im looking for a 32inch, just need some ideas.

Thanks

Westinghouse 37" 42" and the upcoming 47" all do REAL 1080P and accept real 1080P inputs

Sceptre also has a 37" and a 42" that do 1080P

everything above ranges from $1199-$2400

I know its not 32" but Sony's SXRD displays are 1080p and absolutely beautiful to look at. Price is ballpark 3000 for a 50"

but can it accept a 1080P signal or just display one? Quite a few can only display but not accept a true 1080P signal. Thanks in advance for the info.

BTW OP: if you are thinking about getting a 1080P television TV for the PS3 you'll want one that can even accept the 1080P signal :)

Thanks for the reply guys.

Rage187: Yeah basically that would be what i am looking for, a HDTV that can accept and is purpose designed for 1080P input, not just upscaling etc. I am looking for a LCD/Plasma that will produce the best picture quality for the PS3.

I was looking at this page

https://www.westinghousedigital.com/c-7-1080p-monitors.aspx

I'm just reading up on the monitors now. Thanks :)

I have the 37" 1080P, it's beautiful but I would get the 42" or 47" in a heart beat.

It can NOT accept 1080p, just display one :p. I've never seen one that can with my own eyes, other than a computer monitor. I was under the impression that HDMI couldn't support that kind of bandwidth.

HDMI is just DVI with sound, if DVI can do 1080P then HDMI can.

about current 1080P DLP's

All of the DLP displays that market themselves at 1080 are in fact using a 1280x720 DLP element that uses a technique called "wobulation" to approximate the effect of 1080p, but they do so horribly. The current crop of DLP displays are just not worth buying.

Nice article about the Sony mentioned above

Good read. I would like to point out that the SXRD is not a DLP set and does not use "wobulation" It is recommended as the best 1080 set as long as pc resolutions above 1280x1024 are not required.

Don't know what I was thinking about HDMI, it's apparently always been able to transmit 1080p at 60fps. Thanks for the link Rage.

no problem bro.

But as noted in the article future versions of the Sony set will be able to accept 1080P, so not sure this has happened yet as the article was only written in may.

Why would some TV's display 1080p but not accept it? That just seems backwards.

yes you can. Also the samsung 1080P DLP's accept a 1080P signal. Not officially because Samsung don't wanna support it, but they accept it. Check out avsforum.com, there's plenty of discussion about this over there.

You guys think it is worth the extra money for a 1080p set? I am buying a 50-60" set in the next month or two...

I'd wait at least until the PS3 launches before figuring this out because:

1. As you can see there aren't many true 1080p sets available yet, it may get better by the end of the year.

2. I still don't totally buy that many PS3 games will run in 1080p. 1080P is 2.25 times as many pixels as 720P, that's going to mean huge sacrifices in graphical complexity. More complicated scenes in 720p would almost certainly provide a better experience for more people, even considering a long lifespan for the PS3. It just doesn't seem worthwhile to cut performance by half for less than 1% of the market.

Edit: At 32" in a living room, you may be hard pressed to distinguish the extra detail in 1080p anyway.

the sony sxrd projector that my family is getting apparently supports hdmi and dvi in full 1080p. or was it just dvi? i dont remember.

i would say the sceptre and westinghouse lcds are your best bet for 1080p.
