Didn't know this was such a big deal with the local law enforcement. Was told by the county and local office "I am not signing that damn thing" to paraphrase.

Fortunately their signature is not required.

Looking to pick up a Mosin soon.

:)

I have one. I just sent a copy of the application to my local sheriff. They don't have to do anything, it's just for notification purposes. if you do get the FFL, DO NOT SIGN THE ORIGINAL. Make copies and sign those. Most places will not accept a photocopied signature.

Two sites that helped me with the application:

surplusrifle.com
Cruffler.com

right, not looking for the typo crowd though, hoping for only those that are part of it. Don't want this becoming a "look I can google"-fest.

It's funny though the reaction I got. I simply told them it's coming their way anyway..their signature is not needed nor even an option.

you don't but you can get them cheaper online and have it delivered directly to your house without having to go to a dealer and pay their transfer fees.

A Class 3 is an entirely different animal. If that's what you asked about, maybe that's why they got fussy?

My C&R application has been sitting here for months..I really should send it in.

I've never been charged more than $25 to transfer a gun. Not sure what the FFL costs, but I bet it's more than $25. If not, sign me up.

I've been kicking around the idea of an M1 Garand. Just need to talk the wife into letting me buy more guns.

the C&R costs $30 and it's good for 3 years. Plus many online retailers give you special discounts once they have your C&R on file, especially AIM and Century :) They treat you like a dealer

I have an 03. It's great to have. Keep a good log book of your transactions. It helps in the event of ATF audit. I have had mine 2 years, will need to renew soon. Well worth the 30 dollars to have one. Remember, in the event of audit, inspection, you do not need to let them into your home. You can arrange to do it at their office, at your convenience. They will fight tooth and nail to prevent you from doing so, but it's in the regs, they MUST allow it. Just a tip, in case you don't want ATF snooping around your home.

Give your 03 to MidwayUSA, Graf's, Brownell's, etc. and they also give dealer discounts on everything.

I have an Excel spreadsheet I found online -- I print out and keep in a binder I use for my 'bound book'. I hand-write everything. I know they say 'bound', but I've only had 3 transactions in the time I've had mine. A pair of Swiss K31s and a Mosin 91/30.

Get an 03 and you have fulfilled the 'experience' requirement of the CMP Program. Join the Garand Collector's Association ($25), and fulfill the 'club membership' requirement.

Order a Garand starting at $495 from www.thecmp.org -- delivered direct to your door.

I'm not terribly concerned with getting a C&R FFL. I just don't buy that many C&R eligible guns, but if it gets me on the CMP approved list, then I'm all for it. I still need to get off my ass and sent up a Trust.

no it wasn't I referred to it as a Curio and Relics / Type 3 on the phone. I just typoed here.

ATF in my area doesn't have a problem with this like the local sheriffs do, but Palm Beach County is sort of anti-gun to begin with.

not really looking for the specifics, but you are required to keep a bound book, it's not optional.

Garand ammo is expensive IMHO and the gun isn't that much better.

800 rounds for $100 or so FTW

They will also go straight through concrete block and take out a polar bear if needed. :)

My book is bound by 3 rings -- not bound as in 'book binding'. Some argue that it needs to be bound like a book, but I don't believe the binding matters, as long as you keep detailed logs of your transactions.
