any HardOCP readers here remember if fans sucking or blowing is better?

Been turning my fans upside down back and forth trying to figure it out.

I could have sworn HardOCP had an article up about it a long time ago, I did a host search via altavista, no such page turns up...

If anyone remembers, please reply to this thread.

okay... well.. as far as anything other than alpha's, they usually work best with the fan blowing onto the heatsink.

With alpha's, they perform best(1 to 2 degree's C better) with the fan pulling air away from the heatsink.

In my experience with case cooling I've found it is best to try things all ways and monitor the resulting temps before deciding. I found exactly the opposite to be true from what was recommended at HardOCP, by coincidence.

generally, a fan is more efficient pulling air than trying to push it. especially if somthing is against the fan, filter, radiator, ect.

P-3 450@133 FBS for 600mhz 2.3v
256 mb pc 133 mem (no name stuff )
Abit BE6-II mb
Arctic circle w\backing plate and fan
heatsinks on cache chips
Voodoo 3 3000 @180 mhz
SBLive
full tower with lots of air flow through the case

Allrighty thanks.

So far from testing, sucking seems to be keeping the heatsink cooler. :)

well, according to your first post, i have no idea where your fan is.

now, for the HS, it depends on your setup. with mine, blowing is better... but that's partially due to my exhaust near the CPU, and 2 120mm fans that blow the mobo from the side of my case.

I remember that article well actually, the test showed almost no difference between the two, but generally when the fan was blowing on the CPU it was maybe 1 degree or so lower.
