I've got a problem for you...

I have a Panasonic KX-HGW200 router, all info can be found here

http://www.panasonic.com/consumer_electronics/gate/sup.asp

Yep, Panasonic made routers! My deal is I want to use this as a bridge mainly to take advantage of its HPNA 2.0 capability. I just purchased a Siemens Speedstream 2624 Wireless router that I'd like to use as my main router.

So, can I daisy chain my Panasonic router up to the newer Siemens router? The 2624 has a uplink port, but right now I am confused what this port is used for. Do I connect the WAN port on Panasonic to this uplink port? The funny thing is, the status light on the 2624 for this uplink port lights up when the uplink port switch is DEACTIVATED. The light goes out if the uplink port is activated.

Basically, I have one computer in the other end of the house on 2nd floor, and it's happily connected via HPNA 2.0. That's the reason for keeping the panasonic.

You need to disable dhcp and nat on one of the routers, and NOT use the wan port on that router. this will render it a basic switch, acting as a bridge in your network. You pick the one to do this with, depending on how you want your network configured, and which device is easier to do this with.
If you can set the speedstream up as a WAP, that would be the best. That way, you keep the panasonic as-is, and plug a cable from one of the regular ports on the panasonic and into the uplink(not the wan) port on the speedstream.

Make sure if you put the panasonic behind the Siemens that you configure its route to pass thru it.

hey guys,

well my plan is to have the Siemen 2624 Wireless as my main router, since it supports UPnP and DMZ and wireless and has 10/100; the panasonic only has 10baseT. The ONLY reason I am keeping the panasonic in the equation is that it supports HPNA 2.0, which I use to connect one computer at the other end of the house with. The Panasonic router has three ports - one WAN, one 10BaseT (out to either computer or Hub), one HPNA phoneline connector.

Right now the system is set up as a daisy chain, with Siemen wireless on top, and a straight cat5 cable connection the siemen to the WAN port on the Panasonic (uplink switch off, otherwise I don't get a signal  ). I've tried turning off NAT and DHCP on Panasonic, but it simply won't work. So, basically my other computer behind Panasonic using HPNA can use the Internet but can't see the other systems hooked up directly to the Siemen router.

What do you think?

Also, another weird problem : my dell inspiron 8000 laptop's 10/100 NIC somehow won't connect to the Siemen router at 100Mbps!!! :( I have to manually set it to 10Mbps full or half duplex. Otherwise, the connection is on and off constantly, staying about a second or so in each state. At first I thought it was the cable, but I tested the same cable with my desktop and it's able to connect to the Siemen router at 100Mbps just fine. I have three cables, all three do the same thing. I've tried deleting the 10/100 NIC from WinXP Pro's device manager and then reboot to let WinXP reinstall it, same deal happens afterwards. I just got home for spring break, and my laptop was working fine in my dorm where the connection was 100Mbps.

What should I do now?

so nobody here has had similar experience where a computer won't connect to a router at 100Mbps but will at lower speed, with seemingly all settings correctly in place ? :(

I've seen it numerous times before, when two devices won't autonegotiate properly. Not an uncommon thing actually.

Set the laptop's NIC speed and duplex manually and be done with it already.
