Sounds like a joke to me. I like this quote:
The purported "prize" for participating hackers is 500 megabytes of online storage space.

That makes little sense to computer experts. They say hackers capable of breaking into thousands of computers could easily steal that amount of storage on corporate networks.

It would be more funny if sites like the MPAA, RIAA, etc got hacked again and again.

Lamest prize ever.

Seriously... if you're that elite, wouldn't you run your OWN webservers???

If you are truely elite, you would 0wn your own webserver.

Quite possibly the stupidest contest ever. A real hacker contest would not have a target of 6,000 sites, that's childs play with the right tools given how many security-dumb people seem to run websites. A real contest would be to break into a really well defended system. Guess that might be too much of a challenge for these guys though.

The hacker defacement contest, which is expected to kick off on Sunday, will award free hosting services, Web mail, unlimited E-mail forwarding, and a domain name of choice to hackers who can break into various Websites, according to InformationWeek. The contest offers the most points for hackers who are successful in hacking a Mac: "Web-site defacement points will be awarded based on the type of operating system running the Web site. Defacement of Web sites running Windows will only win a single point, while sites running Linux, Unix, and BSD are each worth three points. Sites running AIX, IBM's version of Unix, are worth three points, while sites running HP-UX, Hewlett-Packard's version of Unix, and Macintosh, Apple's operating system, are worth up to five points."

Yeah, I know.

"Don't turn on your computers this Sunday, h4x0rs are having a contest to see how many websites they can hack. If not well defended, your computer could potentially explode."
