I found it to be much better out of the tap in an Irish pub (in Ireland). Drinking Guinness fresh in Ireland ruined it for me when I try the imported Guinness here in the States.
True story. At the beginning of the century they cleaned out the vats at the Guinness factory. They found a lot of dead rats at the bottom of each vat. When they started the brewing processes again after that the stout did not quite taste the same. They had to resort to throwing in pieces of raw meat in each vat to recreate the classic Guinness Stout flavor. They still do it to this day.
Sure. But stouts are stout. I should have been more clear. When I said I have ale at home, I meant the lighter ales like altbier, lager or bock and not stout or porters.
