there's lots of talk about supposed specs and card pictures and such, but does anyone have a vague idea about when the next gen of cards will be released (and if it'll be a paper launch or a real one)

Some people, most likely reviewers, should see some G70's by the second week of june..

I would think around July for the little people.. :)

ATi I believed delayed the R520, I wouldn't expect that till at least August or September..

Those are US release times I suppose, I really hope their stock extends to europe this time around, it was about 3 months after the US release date the first cards emerged here.

As long as a few cards are available soon in the retail channel, I'll be very happy camper (i.e., the price on x800 and 6800 based cards will see a nice drop in price).

I'm in the process of building a new PC and won't order the mobo/ram/cpu or video card until the "high end" video cards drop significantly in price (e.g., sub $200.00).

When you think about it, everyone should be very pleased when a new generation of video cards hit the street. Those wanting to upgrade every 6-12 months and pay top dollar for the newest and fastest video cards have their next upgrade and those (like myself) who want fast performance but a reasonable price get last year's fastest cards on the cheap.

It's a win-win for everyone;-)

G70 out in June. With the specification leak that is all over the net, we can hopefully see the cards out sooner than the 'June 22nd' release.

Which should drop the 6800 series prices quite nicely...

IF the supply is good . . . . a lot of people are looking to pick up a cheap gt or ultra - like me and you and our cousins and those with 1/2 of an SLI setup. ;)

they may be hard to find depending if nVidia has already transitioned to it's smaller die and decides to DIScontinue the more expensive [old] cards . . . and also the price-performance of SLI'd 6800s vs. a single 7800.

Sounds like we should see reviews in the next 2-3 weeks.

I would expect if availability is set for July 1st that early August should start to see some cards hitting the channel at inflated prices.

as long as samsung has a decent supply of memory chips we probably wont have a supply problem this time around.

Paper launches from nVidia & ATi this summer, & if we're lucky, they'll be on shelves by Christmas.

I wonder if the next generation of "mid-line" cards will generally be faster than the x800xt and 6800GT (much like the 6600GT did the 9800 Pro)?

My prediction is that supply will be bad. This is the due to the fact that word on the GPU for the Sony PS3 is not final yet and Nvidia is spending more time & money on preparing to fab the GPUs for Sony and give PC gamers less supply as a result. Same goes for ATI.

Keep in mind, why should they over-supply the PC market for declining revenue when they can easily make the money for game consoles which Microsoft/Sony are paying them in advance without the declining prices.

The 7800 will be out by July and in limited numbers, they will price like $499 and prices of 6800Ultras will be $399~$350 and 6800GT will be $299 or less. Nvidia or ATI are not in a hurry to slash prices, they know the PC market is not the bigger pot of gold right now. They don't have much time to get the next-gen consoles ready.

Mark my words.

i have - as totally wrong.:p

Where do i start?

the PS3 GPU is NOT the g70/7800.

The r520 is not the Xbox360 GPU (xboxes is r500 which has elements of ati's future r600)

Nvidia's big bucks come from desktop videocards - NOT console GPUs
