I found a 52" 1080p Mitsubishi DLP TV on craigslist today for $250, gonna try to check it out today or tomorrow. I was wondering if theres anything I should keep an eye out for or should know about before buying. They say the bulb was repaced once "because the kids turning it on and off often". I remember hearing that mitsu TVs aren't the best brand, but even a mediocre 52" 1080p DLP that's functioning properly has to be worth $250

Thoughts?

Well, turning the tv on and off a lot does shorten the bulb's life so that's not any real reason for concern.

Other than that the only other failure points are the light engine and color wheel. For $250 it seems like a decent gamble. A new 60" unit starts at about $800.

If they demo with a Blu-ray called Gremlins, I would say keep the light off during the demo :)

I would ask the model number prior to seeing it in person....also who cares how much they paid 3 years ago. Not relevant to the price you should pay.

I may be speaking prematurely but it may be a reality of DLP. I have a new set that overscans and it is my understanding that its by design. I may be wrong though.

I can take it down to like 1770x1000 and see the whole screen until I get it fixed (I should be able to once I get my drivers figured out. It's dumb there are just no H/V size adjusters though...

There should be adjustments in the service menu. Same with geometry adjustments.

Well, for one thing overscan is by design for TV's. ALL feeds are done with the express expectation of up to 5% overscan. The overscan area is also used to store extra information, such as closed-captioning (for those that do not have overscan, you will notice a few lines of pixels across the top of the screen which are a bunch of white/black blocks that are constantly shifing...that would be the CC feed).

As for fixing it with a PC, your video drivers have this capability (well, at least Nvidia and ATI, not sure about Intel). The Nvidia fix is pretty straight forward in their drivers under the TV section I believe. ATI is the most convoluted thing in the world! They have a bunch of idiots over there working on the interface. See my post over at avsforums for how to find it in the current drivers:

See my thread regarding my problems getting to the overscan/underscan option in CCC 10.2

Does it have to be HDMI to enable the scaling tab? Right now I have it as DVI cause I can't find a long enough HDMI cord
