Any good westerns??

Hey,
Been jamming to the new Calexico album (ok, I don't really jam to albums.. Umm.. 'swaying?') and it really has gotten me in the mood to see a good western - any recommendations? I'm not talking a cheesy John Wayne sorta western - something dark and grim.. I'm sure they must exist but I don't know the genre very well... Thanks!

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.

doesn't get much more dark and grim than that.

not to mention it has the best musical score of any western ever.

Tombstone
Good/Bad/Ugly
The Magnificent Seven
Unforgiven
Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid
Fistful of Dollars
Once Upon a Time In the West

Cool.. I'll check out unforgiven again.. Yeah, i usually don't like westerns but I never saw the good ol' italian ones... To the video store!

I remember hearing great things about Tombstone.... Will check that out too.. i wonder why hollywood stopped making good westerns but with modern, john woo type visuals.. that would rock!

spaghetti westerns are way cool. But the best and the longest is Good/Bad/Ugly.

a true western tour de force.

Tombstone is good, but I always thought that one part toward the end was cheesy. Where Kurt Russel was saying "no" or whatever to himself over and over again.

Has no one else seen High Noon?

High Noon is maybe the best Western of all time.

Stagecoach, with John Wayne.
Ox-Bow Incident
True Grit
Red River
My Darling Clementine
Ride the High Country
Little Big Man- frickin' awesome movie !!

And I really like Lonesome Dove too.

thats a good movie, but it isn't completely grim.... there are a few scenes that are, but the way the movie ends isn't dark or grim.

High Plains Drifter
The Magnificent Seven
A Fistful of Dollars
For a Few Dollars More
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
Pale Rider
Two Mules for Sister Sara (Great movie)
Unforgiven

Most are Clint Eastwood, some aren't but I believe Clint eastwood makes westerns.
