Hi, I am in LA, and I want to go to a nice restaurant within 10 miles of Hollywood.
Anyone care to recommend one?
Thanks.

I don't know LA too well but you can hit up restaurants in Thai town if you're into that type of food.

Or if you like garlic, you can try Stinking Rose.

Where exactly in Hollywood? It's a pretty lengthy area if you include Boystown/WeHo.
I need your budget, food that you like, and occasion. I'll be continually editing this list so keep checking back.

Upscale, Lowkey dining:

Restaurant Vermont, in Los Feliz. 1714 N Vermont Ave. (323) 661-6163. Food is eclectic, but very well done and the environment is fantastic for dates. Awesome bar too with great drinks. Expected cost for dinner for 2 is about $90 including drinks and tip.

Hollywood & Vine Diner, 6263 Hollywood Blvd. (323) 461-2345. Spectacular surroundings, may be closed for renovation. Awesome food. Try the chocolate cake dessert. $75 for 2 including drinks and tip.

Midrange

El Cholo Restaurant. 1121 S Western Ave. (323) 734-2773. Be careful, this place gets CROWDED during the weekends. Call ahead. Best margaritas on the planet, and you'll be there in time for the seasonal green tamales. Mmm.

Gaucho Grill. 7890 W. Sunset. (323) 656-4152. Argentinian food chain. Lots of great meat dishes and one of my favorite places. Good wine selection and atmosphere. Very cheap considering quality of food and service too. This location is on the Sunset Strip so come early before it gets crowded.

IMO, the most hyped up places are never really that good, unless you're talking about Roscoe's.
Stinking Rose is worth a trip at least once but it's horrible on your stomach and makes you reek.

Thanks, keep them coming.
This is not for a date. I am taking my grandparents to a restaurant while I am in town. They don't eat out, so they don't know.

As far as budget, I guess around $15-30/person. It's not for dinner, I want to go in a couple hours.
I have car, so I can go 15 miles each way. Now I am around sunset and la brea.
I don't have a prefference for food, but I know my grandparents won't eat anything spicy, so the place must have some non-spicy dishes, like fish or chicken.
I've been to stinking rose, so I want to try something new.

Ah ok that clears it up.

Definitely one of these:

Gaucho Grill (Some spicy dishes but overall pretty standard stuff)
El Cholo (Best mexican food)
El Coyote (lesser cousin to El Cholo)
Benihana (decent lunches there, not too pricey)
PF Changs (americanized Chinese food)

Oh wait.. definitely try Grand Lux Cafe.. little sister restaurant to Cheesecake Factory and has superior food IMO. 10 billion things on the menu all affordable. It's in the Beverly Center.

Grand Lux Cafe 121 N. La Cienega. (310) 855-1122

Yeah I used to work in the bakery at Cheesecake Factory in Brentwood. When they opened the Grand Lux one of our managers brought over some food. It's easily an order of magnitude better.

If they have it, definitely try the Godiva Chocolate Cheesecake. It's so good it'll make you want to slap yo' momma.

Keep in mind that most of the entrees are on the large side, so if you order an appetizer you might want to end up splitting an entree instead of ordering separate ones.

Not sure how far it is from where you are but BB King's Blues Club is pretty hot. It's in Universal City on the City Walk.

If you bothered to look at his profile, he's not from around here. Plus, while there ARE thousands of restaurants in LA, it gets kind of hard finding one with good food/service in a certain price range.

I've all but memorized my Zagat guide and I'm going to be starting my own food-based website soon, and it gets challenging finding real, GOOD restaurants.

I don't know about LA/Hollywood, but the OSF here in San Diego rocks. Very inexpensive and the food is excellent. When you sit down, they bring you a loaf of bread and butter to munch on. :D

No, there are absolutely no good restaurants in Hollywood. In fact nobody actually eats food in Hollywood; all they survive on is nicotine and liposuction. And uppers. But there are absolutely no good restaurants in Hollywood. None. Ever. Period.

Sorry, couldn't help it. :p

I live in Hollywood and I survive on heroin alone.

El Chavo is a really great Mexican restaurant on the east end of Hollywood, and they make the BEST margarita I have found in North America. Believe me, I've looked in almost all of the border states. :D :wine:

El Chavo
4441 W. Sunset Drive near Hillhurst Av.
Hollywood, California

It's just east of the north-east corner of Sunset and Hillhurst. Go east on Sunset Bl. to Hillhurst. Hollywood Bl. also bends slightly south to intersect, here. Sunset doglegs to the right, here. Instead of following it, go straight ahead on the little side street. The third driveway on your right is the entrance to their parking lot. Alternatively, you can park on Sunset (north side of the street) and go in the front door.

They only have one kind of margarita, and your only choice is with or without salt. If you're borderline on that, go without the salt. The tart citrus flavor will carry the day.

Don't expect your run of the mill taco and enchilada place. This is classy food that happens to be Mexican in style. Dinner will run around $20 with drinks. Try the scallops enchilada, or lengua (tongue) in mole sauce, or if they have fresh red snapper, grab it! Truly excellent. You will not regret it. :D

I just found four reviews on the place.
