Any suggestions besides the following

AudioGalaxy - Installs Webhancer spyware
Imesh - Installs Cydoor Spyware
Bearshare - Installs Onflow Spyware

Yes these spyware programs can be removed with AdAware but this will cause the program to stop working, in the case of Onflow, if you remove it then IE will crash.

So what will the next Napster Be? Any sugestions?

I tried every File Sharing program available. The best one in my opinion is a program called Kazaa. With this program you can share music, video, software and pictures. It operates a whole lot like Napster. But instead of being able to trade only music file this program will let you share any type of file. I don't even use Napster anymore. This program does it all. All the files that Napster has had to delete this program has gained. No worry of getting shut down like there is with Napster. I think this program comes out of the UK so we don't have to worry about any US Copyright laws. It is the Perfect Napster Alternative! It can be downloaded at http://www.kazaa.com It can also be found at www.download.com

Audiogalaxy is pretty good though - but the program has a habit of locking up - I can tell as soon as this happens because my CPU temps suddenly start to rise :(

<< AudioGalaxy - Installs Webhancer spyware >>

So what does this actually result in?

Do you value your privacy, some people do and they will not install any programs that install spyware.

I believe it was webhancer that was causing IE 5.5 to lock up on some sites. They weren't just minor lockups either, gave me shut down problems. Just say "no" to spyware... it always seems to cause instability. Oh, deleting the webhancer folder disabled all my internet connectivity until I reinstalled it.

The only thing that locks up for me is actually the audiogalaxy program - which strangely enough has not been working this week?

I can view songs etc - but when I select them to download the icon turns green???

Well I guess we all value it - but it's really a matter of how much privacy you want to give away - each time you visit a site you leave a cookie trail, each time you log onto the internet it is recorded.

I'm not really too sure how much "private" info will "actually" be looked at but if you are worried about privacy the last thing you really want to do is use electronic means of communication ;)

"working" is the operative word here huh? i mean, windows ME is "working"....they just changed the way it works too. it works with blue screens of death. for all intensive purposes, napster isnt working.

That depends on whether you would like whoever is spying on you to know you visit Anandtech or the like, or which MP3 files you currently have on your system.

Forgive me if I sound naive - but everytime you make a call from your home telephone, cell phone etc it's logged.

Everytime you use your credit card or ATM card it is recorded.

You ISP has records of when you are on or offline - I'm sure they can log what you are looking at also.

There will be a "million" other things like cameras in the street/highway etc watching your every move.

The truth is having the "resources" to do anything with the "harvested" information is a completely different story so far.

My advice for anybody (who is concerned about privacy) is - if you have anything at all that you consider to be sensitive information/material - do not record it using electronic means whatsoever! And if you do - do not connect that source to the internet where outside sources "could" access it.

Right now, in my life, I have no problem about "unknown sources" knowing I am reading anandtech or have mp3's on my HD - if and when that day comes - I'll not be posting about it here either ;)
