I've been coughing for the past week and its gotten really annoying.

It started with a sore throat, then violent coughing during the day and night. Now its only coughing during the daytime, but I still feel like coughing every five minutes. I used to be wheezing, but now I just feel mucus that needs to be coughed up.

I'm gonna be heading to Albertsons later tonight and I'd like to know what I should pick up. I checked WebMD and they didn't say anything about any OTC drugs I could be taking. My friend suggested boiling Coca-Cola with lemon, which I am going to try later.

If theres anything else please post, I hate coughing. I realize that it may take a couple weeks to get better. I should be seeing a doctor, but after turning 19, my healthcare just went down the shoot.

Serious answers please. :)

Why don't you just stop?

:D

Are you coughing stuff up all the time or is it a dry cough?

If you're coughing stuff up, drink plenty of water. That'll help loosen the mucus up.

I've had a similar cough for well over a year. I've been to my GP, who ruled out asthma, allergies and acid reflux. He sent me to a specialist who covered the same ground, plus steroids and expensive scans, which turned up nothing. Guess he'll be sending me to a more special specialist after this. I've lined the pockets of two doctors, plus hospital tests for about 9 months and have no idea what the cause is. I'd have just as good luck figuring it out on a message board for free! Only difference is that life threatening issues have been ruled out, so that's worth something, but that point was reached a LONG time ago.

I've gotten some relief by using AYR Saline Nasal Mist, which costs next to nothing. If you have a sinus infection, only antibiotics will help. Some infections are VERY hard to get rid of. That's where the nasal mist can do some good, by preventing infections in the first place.

OTC drugs that can inhibit coughing would contain dextromethorphan.

Check for allergy. This happened to me also, but I would started sneezing, then the coughing ensues. I coughed for a good year because my stupid @ss did not go to a doctor. So, get ya butt to a doctor.
EDIT: Sometimes during the night, my coughing got so bad that I actually woke myself, my gf up, and I fcuking cried because I don't know what else to do to make it stop. Medicine didn't help.

If you're gonna go for some quick remedy, then hot lemonade with honey will sooth the throat.
