Any good place online to buy a firearm from?

KK

Lifer
I been looking at galleryofguns.com, gunsamerica.com and gunbroker.com, but is there anywhere else to look?

Thanks

I too would like to know about this....

specifically, I'd like to know what I do and do not need special licencing to buy online.... 🙂

The auction sites can be overpriced if you don't know exactly what you are looking for and how much it should cost (same goes for gunshows and dealers)

What kind of firearm are you interested in?

the best online gun store

explanation of FFL:

Firearms will not be shipped to you direct. They will be sent to your local FFL (Federal Firearms License) Dealer, who will then perform any local background checks. We can refer you to dealers that will do a transfer for you in almost every city in the USA! We do not ship firearms to non-FFL holders. This is federal law.

Short of having an FFL, you can't. You'll have to go through a licensed dealer.

FFL?

Federal Firearms License.

Basically you need to transfer the firearm through a licensed dealer who will do the background check.

thought that was just for automatics and handguns?

I want a semi automatic, compact-ish rifle with a huge clip, a bayonette and the ability to take a shoulder strap. 🙂 Can't speak for the OP though

Nope. All firearms (excluding personal face to face sales) need to pass thorugh a dealer for transfer.

There's AuctionArms.com too, but it's smaller than gunbroker.

Gunbroker deals in my experience aren't really that much better when you figure in the cost of shipping and FFL fees. There are a few good deals to be had though, like eBay you have to keep an eye out.

Edit: since some people seem to think buying online allows you to circumvent federal law:

It doesn't.

You still have to transfer it through someone with a license, who must run the background check and keep information on file until they go out of business, at which time they must surrender all records to the BATF. The BATF can stop by at any time and request to see where they store their records and take any they wish.

The same federal laws still apply. You can't buy a rifle your state has banned (ie: a 50 caliber rifle) online and ship it to California. The FFL holder would be breaking the law if they sold it to you and be risking a stay in FPMITAP

Most online gun auctions will ship to an FFL (federal firearms license) holder, and you simply pay them to do the paperwork for the transfer. Most FFL holders will charge about $25 (at least, that's the going rate around East Texas).

I believe there are no background checks needed for black powder firearms, but other than that, all firearms require a federal background check.

You'll need to find where you want to buy from, then locate a local FFL dealer (Any gunshop or pawn shop should be able to do it) then have them send a copy of their FFL to the place you want to buy from. The e-tailer will sell to you, ship to your FFL. You'll go to your FFL and pay a transfer fee of approx 20 bucks and pick it up from them.

What are you interested in? That will narrow down where to look.

Sure you can. Just have them ship it to a licensed dealer. You pay a fee to the dealer for the background check and they hold it for the required number of days.

The last gun I bought was from someone on gunsamerica.com. Out of all the places locally and online it was cheaper with shipping and FFL transfer fee included. Just not having very good luck finding a super redhawk 454 any cheaper than around 580 with fees.

I haven't dealt with them before, but there is one listed as NIB on Gunbroker.com with a BIN of $499.00 here. Not sure what additional fees that would be associated with the purchase, other than the standard transfer fees, etc.

Yeah, that's for a 44 though. The 454 and 480 models go alittle bit higher than the 44 models. I found one that starts at 400 with no reserve, maybe no one else will see it.

DOH! Was scanning through the list and saw several .454s, and totally missed that this one was a .44. 😱
