Any good Notebook Gap-Pads out there?

My notebook (Acer TM 8204wlmi) cpu temps typically average around 65 degrees C when idle, and 100+ when under load. I recently purchased some AS5 to see if I could improve things, opened up the notebook, and (like an idiot) pulled off the pre-installed silicon pads and squeezed out the AS5. I then smacked myself and realized that the pads were there for a reason. There was a sizable gap between the GPU, RAM, and heat sink, so the AS5 was worthless. Fortunately, I had purchased the AS5 remover, and removed the AS5, but I'd torn up the pads in the process of removing them. I put the pieces back together as best I could, and the notebook still functions, but my GPU overheats easily when gaming, so I'm looking for replacements. However, no one appears to sell these things.

Any recommendations/links to suppliers?

Jap Frag Tape is the best!

If I was you, I'd hop on it, 'cause HighSpeedPC actually has it in stock right now (usually OOS w/waiting list)...

3M makes frag tape too, but it isn't as good, so I won't bother giving you a link to it... 😀

Sweet Thanks. 🙂 Just snapped up 2 strips. Also, I opened up my lappy again to measure the original pad thickness, and it looks like the pads have a 1mm rim with a .5 mm recess for the die/core. Could I layer the tape to compensate or would that do more harm than good? Thanks again.

My pleasure!

Good question about doubling-up the tape, but I've never tried doing that, soooo...

I dunno... sorry!

Hmmm... looks like I'll be doing some experimentation 😀

Too bad ATI neglected to include a temp sensor on the MR X1600 🙁

Thanks anyway.

Well, I tried layering the stuff, didn't seem to make any difference one way or another. Temps are lower overall though, so it definitely helped 🙂
