Any good non-chain food places along I-5?

I'm going to be moving from San Francisco down to Orange County tomorrow. Are there any good places that most people wouldn't normally know about to stop and eat?

Harris Ranch Inn & Restaurant -- north of Kettleman City. The exit is Dorris Ave/198. It smells like manure outside, but it's fine inside and the steaks are pretty good.

I like stopping at Pea Soup Andersen's in Santa Nella (or Buellton if you ever take the 101)

It is a chain, though (three total)

I know In-N-Out is good, but theres a few right around my house in OC, I was looking for something new. I've also already been to the Harris Ranch (which is definitely more than I was wanting to spend, but good).

that's where we usually stop. Just remember go to the family dining area instead of the fancy place. Same cows, same meat, just not as pricey 🙂

I second the nomination for Andersen's. Classic road trip stop.
