I had one I GOT FROM BUY.COM. They accept returns easily with no hassel and even pay for return ship (if you say it was not working right). But, I liked the unit even though the picture was a bit too small. I paid around $300 ($250 after their rebate then, that I never sent in). I ended up returning it only because the screen was so small and it just seemed a real delicate gadget. One drop on the floor and it would probably be dead. I wanted to play stuff, and now 7" screen portable dvd players go for around $150. So I figured I'd return the lyra and get a 7" dvd that plays burnt vcd and dvd (which I did). I cant believe they cant put a lyra 2780 guts into a 7" dvd - like case, so you'd have a big 7" screen lyra.
One thing of note, the lyra 2780 played a lot (almost all) of my mpeg video formats. Some reviews had people saying the lyra was too picky on playing diff mpeg formats. I never found this to be true. What I do was take a video capture of a movie or show, use tmpgenc to make a mpeg1 file, and copy/play it on the lyra. This worked perfect! Lyra played all these files and the 20gb drive held 10 or so movies.
But I opted for a 7' dvd player rather than the $300 lyra. It would be nice to have both!!!
