Okay, I know this question is probably going to sound like, "I don't want to know Advanced Calculus, I want to know ABOUT advanced calculus." But, I don't the the following question is totally outrageous. I don't really want to learn how to program, but at the same time I feel ignorant on the entire programming, networking and security side of computers. I have built my own computer and know a fair amount about windows, but I don't know the first thing about C++, .Net, UNIX, Java, PHP, TCP/IP and so on. I hear these terms thrown around but have no idea how they are implemented. I know people spend a lifetime on his stuff, but there has to be a way to at least survey the situation. Maybe even something that touches on the history of development or how they interact. Again, I'm not looking to learn how to program or fix a network, but I'd like to be able to converse with the IT department on networking and security issues using their terminology, if possible.
