I've decided that I'll pretend to be a good little cathaholic tonight and have fish instead of my usual steak or cheeseburger.

Does anyone have any good ideas for preparing tilapia? We usually just bread and fry it, but I'm feeling a little creative.

On a side note: I find it funny that the Firefox spell checker recommends the word "tilapia" is actually supposed to be "dilapidated".

just pull it out of the freezer and hit it with a little spice. A big steak and cheeseburger man like you should eat everything this way.

Actually, I haven't had a good steak in probably a month or so, and the last burger was just a simple one at a superbowl BBQ. Before that, probably nothing in the past 2 months. :(

I miss the cow.

I just took tilapia out of the freezer this morning. It is marinating in Lawrys Baja Chipotle marinade right now. Good stuff!

Unfortunately, most of the family dislikes mangoes. And spinach. I'm fine with it.

Also, only 1 out of 3 kids "likes" spicy food, and with a 7 month pregnant wife, don't think spicy will go over well. :(

You havent had real mangoes. This mango season, you should order "Alfonso" or "hapus" mangoes from online. Only a few sites are able to deliver it to the US. They are very expensive, i think about 50-60 bucks for a dozen. But I guarantee you, your life will change.

We do breaded baked tilapia with lemon juice. The rest of the week we do fried cod and grilled salmon just to give us some variety.

We feed it to our red eared sliders. They like it raw so no prep required. :D

I'll be glad to fax him some halibut if necessary.

I hate tilapia. Does it give anyone else a weird aftertaste? No matter the source, no matter the marinade/old bay/salt/pepper, it has some weird aftertaste. No other fish has it.

Be that as it may, about the only other fish my wife will eat would be tuna. Myself, I'd prefer a nice fillet of yellow perch. I'm perfectly content with haddock too. But I tell ya, I've got a picky family. Me, I'd eat just about anything.

I've done steamed tilapia with some oyster sauce, sliced ginger and drizzle of some oil. One of my favorites.

Use crushed black peppercorns (not the friggin powdered crap) and sprinkle a couple of pinches over the fillet. Add salt and grill. No oil necessary at all.
Squeeze a little lemon on the fish before eating. It's heaven I tells ya.

I'm kind of wary of the Chinese imported Tilapia in the market though. I can't get myself to buy it.

Whatever you do ... make sure the fillets are NOT from China. I bought a bag of frozen Tilapia from our local store and the filets were gorgious ... but found out they were from China and threww them away.

I will avoid "food" from China as long as I can.

I would agree, but some people have family members that can't stand the "fishy" taste.

Anyways, i just saute mine with salt and pepper. I use a good bit of fresh ground pepper actually and then once they are about done, juice a lemon over them and serve.
