I know the area a little bit, but have never really looked for a place to get a drink or an ice cream. Thanks.

Head over to Newbury St.

Ice Cream - Ben & Jerrys
Coffee - Trident Books, Other Side Cafe, any of the other sideway cafes

Newbury St is a short walk from the the Community Boating house. If you really need something closer, hit Charles St in Beacon Hill.

Don't know any names of places on Charles St but it's the main st in Beacon Hill with a number of cafes and stuff. You could also walk over the Longfellow bridge and there's a Baskin Robbins there across from Kendall Sq.

But your best bet is Newbury St.

If you feel like making a little trip out of Boston to Middleton, MA you could get the best ice cream in New England (Richardsons) and play a little mini golf while there too. :)

It's about a 30 min trip to get there by car.

JP Licks > Ben & Jerry's in my opinion. Also, Emack and Bolio's is good. All 3 are on newbury street. If you start walking from Hynes convention center T stop (the old virgin megastore -- soon to be bestbuy), you hit JP Licks immediately, then starbucks, then Trident (half block further). A couple blocks later, you will find Emack and Ben&Jerry's...

Hehe I did community boating for a couple summers when I was younger, it can be pretty fun as long as the wind doesn't completely die which it has a habit of doing
