Any Good Hardware Doctor
Hi.
I would like to check if my computer has any hardware problem.
Do you know if there're any programs which could do so?

The following components I would like to check are:
- CPU
- Motherboard
- RAM
- Graphic card (2D and 3D)
- Sound card

- Hard Disk Drive
- CD/DVD drive
- Network card

- voltage (eg stable or not)
- watt supply (eg whether it is adequate or stable)
- Compatibility Issues (with different hardware)
- Performance Issues

CPU: Althon XP Barton 2500+
Motherboard: Asus A7N8X-X (Nvidia chipset), with built-in sound card
RAM: KingMax DDR400 512MB * 2
CDRW: Ricoh
Graphic card: Asus beginner graphic card (<-- have to check its specification, will update later)
HDD: Western Digital 8MB Cache 160GB
Maxtor 2MB Cache 20GB
Network Card:
Realtek 10/100 * 2

Ask for details if this is still not enough.
 
run prime95 in torture test and also memtest for 24+hours, then loop the 3dmark program, this will stress everything pretty well.
 
As a sidenote, someone told me not to run these tests because, if used wrongly, will over-stress your hardware and can cause failures.
So all benchmark/stress/burn-in tests should undermine the health of our computer.
 
yes they can cause failures. is this a new build? the reason i ask this is because when i first build a computer, i will put these on and run the machine for atleast 24+hours, i feel if is ok after that than i probably won't have a problem and if i do have a problem, everything is new so a return is not a problem.

what do you think those others you listed do? they stress it too. no reason to pay when you can get them for free.

It's not a specific advice to some particular products. Rather it's a general advice which tells people not to run all these tests as they should undermine the health of the hardware.

I have bought my hardware for quite a long time, some within warrnaty period; some not.
 
One of the computer which I need to test generated some STOP codes.
It has been a long issue since it was first purchased.

Asus said it should be a compatibility issue between my RAM (I used KingMax DDR400 512MB) and its motherboard.
I changed the model from Asus A7N8X-VM/400 to Asus A78NX-X (with another Asus Display card).
This is supposed to solve all the problems, but the fact is the STOP codes don't leave unfortunately.
I am trying to figure out why.

Incidentally, after the incident, I am more or less reluctant to purchase Asus motherboards and KingMax RAM in future. They gave me bad images that both producers can't make highly-compatible products. Both are picky.
