Friend is looking for some good free Parental Control software for their kids. I don't even know what that entails, any good suggestions? :)

Yeah I poked around on Download.com, but it's hard to tell because I'm not familiar with what Parental Control programs actually do. Time limits? Automatic blocking of sites? Keyword blocking? My usual security mix is AVG-Zonealarm-Spybot-Adaware, so it will be nice to add another one to my arsenal when helping with other friend's computers who have kids.

Vista Home Basic, Home Premium and Ultimate have Parental Controls. So if they happen to have any of those, then set the kiddos up with non-Admin user accounts, don't install any 3rd-party browsers, and enable Parental Controls.

Ah I should have mentioned, it's XP-based :)

www.opendns.com DNS level filtering, I put it on my GF's son's computer. you set up what to block and it does a good job default. You can add domains for custom blocking if the catagories they provide don't cut it for you. I also like t he ability to add a custom image/message when they try to access a blocked page. Her son is "that age" so he's not accidentally finding porn, so he searches he gets a nice failboat pic with "PWNED!" under it.

Best of all, it's free!
