Any good free LCD TV calibration software?

I'd rather not work off a dvd. I just want to DL something, preferably free. Is there anything out there like that that doesnt suck?

The problem is if you download something you need to make sure that you use it for each input if it can be calibrated independently. If you are using your sound card to output video, that also needs to be calibrated and it shouldn't be assumed that its video output needs the same calibration settings as, for example, a DVD player.

I know you'd rather not work off a DVD, but do you own any THX movies? They come with a calibration utility. It's not great, but it's better than nothing.

Check out the forums at avsforum.com. You can find links there to TV calibration software that you can download and burn to a disk.

I sprung for the DVD from Digital Video Essentials. I figure I spend all that money on a TV might as well sring for the DVD to set it up right.

The other problem is that to get the colors right, you ought to have a color filter thing. Retail calibration discs usually come with such filters.

avsforum.com also has threads for each TV (in the display device section, usually called "TV x - settings and tweak thread" or something) where users share the settings they have after calibrating. All TV's are different so there's not an exact consensus, but usually people agree on a range of values and that may be "good enough" for you. It's certainly a good place to start.

I also own the LVM-37W3 (first edition) and remember reading on AVS Forum that the monitor is actually quite well calibrated out of the box and all you need to do is change color temp to warm.

I leave backlight on 1, and monitor seems very accurate to me.
