Any good deals on PS3s?

I am looking at purchasing a PS3 for myself for christmas mostly for bluray but a few games have caught my eye (LBP, MGS, Socom). Are there any good deals going on right now or expecting any closer to the end of the month? My friend works at Walmart and he gets 10-20% off, so that could bring it down to maybe around $320. What is the warranty on PS3s, and do they have any major problems like the 360s RRoD? Would it be a bad idea to purchase a used one? I already have a 360 and so any game that comes out for both systems I will for sure pick up for 360, so I can't really justify spending $400 for 3 games and a bluray player.

Ratchet & Clank, Uncharted, Valkyria Chronicles, Pixeljunk Monsters are other good reasons to own a PS3.

A PS3 is the most future-proof blu-ray player since it has a faster processor, net connection and much more storage than any other player. There will also be software updates to the player for at least another 2-3 years and possibly much longer, while other players you buy today might stop getting updates before the end of 2009.

1 year, unless you use a credit card that doubles warranties (then 1x2 = 2 years :) )

The main issue with PS3s is the blu-ray drive dying, but the overall failure rate was last reported (late 2007, by Sony & EBGames) as being around 1%. Falcon 360s still have an alleged failure rate of around 10% according to a self-described insider who provided no proof.

After the warranty, repairs are $150 so the main reason to buy used is if you want a 20 GB or 60 GB model that has the hardware-based PS2 compatibility. The PS3s being sold new can only play PS1 games, not PS2.

bingo. unless you can find a 20GB or 60GB locally (i would IMMEDIATELY jump on it), i would get one through ebay + 30% cashback.

btw, add metal gear solid 4 to your day one purchase. one of the best ps3 games (and one of the best games in general) of all time.

ps3s usually have a little to no problems, if any. way less than the 360, especially RROD. my 60GB ps3 has had absolutely no problems since i bought mine last year. i do keep mine dusted and i use it basically everyday (ps1/ps2/ps3 games, blu-ray, watching clips from my flash drive or sd card, youtube, etc).

Hmm well if I pick one up off ebay are there any good dealers that have good prices? I have only been able to find BiN for around $410, which is over retail. And I have never used the cashback thing. Do you need a credit card? If so I don't have any and don't plan on acquiring any any time soon :(

You just need a PayPal account. Go to Live.com and search for PS3. A 30% cashback eBay link should appear in the first couple of links. Click that and checkout.

$410 is only $10 over retail. Your actual price would be $287 after the 30% cashback.

I am just starting to use this. Go to the Hot Deals forum and read the thread. It is AWESOME  (Even though my bank account has dropped significantly) :p
