Can you recommend a good retailer of computer parts (motherboard, memory, cpu, etc) within Las Vegas or nearby community? I'll be visiting next month and would like to take the opportunity to purchased some parts. I'mm from accross the sea. Thanks.

When you get to Vegas and have a moment to spare, in your hotel room should be a phone book. Under the heading of "computers" in the yellow pages should be a list, in alphabetical order, of computer stores in the area. I live 100 miles east of Vegas and go there quite often. I have found there selection and pricing to be no better or lesser than that of any community, anywhere.IE--- no bargains.

What are you looking for? a mobo,a case, ram? Do you plan on buying mass quantities of computer gear? You sdayyou come from across the sea. I would think prices are much better "across the sea" than here. Everthing computerwise seems to come from "across the sea". That means to me the import duty is already priced in. I have a computer bussiness and would love to pay duty free on motherboards and ram from "across the sea".:)

Well, everything in Hawaii seems higher than anywhere else in the Mainland US. I would like to go to a computer swap meet or show of some sort. I would like to pick up some dual cpu motherboards - MSI 694D-AR or Abit VP6, may be both. I would definitely look at that phone book. I was hoping that someone who had good experienced in buying from this area might be able to recommend a good place to start.

I figure, since i'm hand carrying the items, I'll save some shipping cost. By the way, are the XRay machines in the airport deadly for computer parts?

I am checking my sources now and will PM you some links as soon as they are available. I subscribe to a reseller resource, but forgot my dang password. I'm waiting for the webmaster to send me a new one. I will also search my office here for some info that may be helpful.

I believe you now. I thought you were "over seas" Had you said you wherte from Hawaii, I would have understood better. It helps to enable your profile and have that info there. Then we don't make silly assumptions like I just did.:(

order some stuff from california. sure you pay shipping, but if you select the cheapest, it'd still get there fast, and it'd still be cheaper than shipping to or buying from hawaii, or buying straight from a store.

unless you plan on staying a day... if it's like a week or 2... that'd be perfect for shipping...

I actually just came back from Las Vegas, and one place I HIGHLY recommend is the Rick Thomas show in the Tropicana. It's like $8.50 a person, and totally worth it. If you ever were amazed by magic seen on TV, the live show will just be a million times better. It's really hard to describe, but I can GUARENTEE you an incredible time.

And other tips of advice is that I don't recommend you rent a car there. If you have two legs and don't mind walking a bit then a car will likely only slow you down with all the traffic and few parking spots there. You'll also be able to just walk into any building easily, as you'll likely find something that spots your interest every block or so. There's definitely no one place to really go, with incredible buildings at every stop.

I live in Vegas. There is absolutley NOTHING in the way of decent computer shops here. The only place that's even remotely good is ComputerSurplusOutlet.com, and they mostly sell older stuff and their techs don't know jack (it's always fun buying RAM 5 minutes before they close for the night for an emergency replacement for a client, and finding that when you asked for 64MB PC100, they sold you 64MB of EDO, and so on.

That has been my experience over the years. That's why I deal with either Denver or Calif for my supplies. It's odd that there are really very few computer stores(outside the Staples, compusa, officedepot style) in the Vegas metro area.

Thanks for the responses.

I usually order my parts from California mail order retailers. Two years ago, I was able to attend a computer swap meet/show in the Costa Mesa area. I was able to pick up a bunch of parts & books. I enjoyed the feeling I get when I can see the item I want to purchase and take it with me on my way out.

Unlike mail order where you buy something you never see yourself, then wait a week, sometimes longer only to find that it was not as shown in the pictures.:Q

I've walked the strip all the way to downtown Las Vegas. We are driving this time, cause we'd like to see the neigboring areas, like Hoover dam, etc. (Nevada residents, this is the time to promote your state - tell me where to go!) So if there's a retailer that you guys feel I should try to visit, even if it's over 100 miles, I'll probably consider it.

Hm... Most of us would probably tell you to go home :) I haven't taken a look at Nevada from a tourist's perspective. Vegas is a pretty crappy town though.
