There are only 3 major manufacturing plants in the world for cds I believe. Tawainn?, US, and Japan. Japan is definitely the best. Look when purchasing cds for ones made in Japan. I have seen Fuji's and TDK's made in Japan.

The only ones I ever have problems with are the Imation. My Ricoh dvd/burner does'nt like to recognize them as being empty it always says insert a cd with anough space!!They're the only one's that do that though!!

i use imation to, never a problem (hp burner), i have a question for guru's, when you burn a cd-r,is the space used to make that burn taken up forever, i.e., if you erased what you burned, it can't be burned again?? I believe this is right, or there would be no need for cd-rw. Correct me if I'm wrong. I just thought of this cause the last post said his computer said insert cd with more space, well, that could just be the product of using cd-r's and then trying to reuse them. Again, correct me if I'm wrong on this :)

you're correct, the erased space will just be left unused (for a cdr) if the session was not closed!

If you use a decent burner and software most any are OK. I use Office Depot 12X that I paid $12.99 for 50 with two Plextors and Nero.

I've had no bad cds with Imation's.

Has anyone used Prime Peripheral cd-rs? I can get a 100 of them for $10 off my friend but I don't want to if they suck. I have a Plextor, but using 8x Kingstons cd-rs to burn at 8x wasn't a pretty site. Basically none of them worked.Data at 4x did and for audio cds I had to drfop it to 2x to get it error free. So any comments on Prime Peripheral cds?

I find the TDK 80 Min. CD's are the best. Look for "Made in the USA" on the spidle/box.

I have burned with them all. I have yet to find a CD that compares to the Verbatim's with the Blue Label. Fantastic. They hold up to wear better too.

TDK certified plus - EXCELLENT! <====RULE!!!
TDK non certified(manufactured by Taiyo Yuden) = good
Tdk non cert. (manufactured by ritek) = BAD!!!!

Most manufacturers arn't that bad, the only one really to avoid is Ritek/CNC. I do believe most "standard" memorex's (most imat's too) are made by Ritek/CNC..Hint,hint,hint. :)
Verbetams for some screwed up reasons don't work on my Tdk/plex rebadge.

check osage's link for the most info on the subject.

If you really feeling patrotic. buy the cert plus TDK's. Made in the southern USA somewhere.. South carolina, i think?????

Skylark, what kind of burner you got?

Gotta agree with KpocAlypse except that the TDK's made in the USA are of equal quality to the Taiyo Yudens (made in Japan). Just don't buy the TDK's that are made from Taiwan since they are Riteks. I personally never had any problems with them, but a lot of people seem to dislike them.

Basically, Taiyo Yuden, Kodaks, and TDK (made in USA & Japan. By the way, a lot of the Imations and Fuji's are made by Taiyo Yuden.

Sony, Kodak, Fuji, Imation are all good brands. I thought it didn't matter until tonight. I have a box of ordinary 12X 80Min Memorex (those with the slim cases) and I just burned a coaster because the CD was missing some dye near the edge. I checked and there was another one in the box that had the same thing.:| 2 bad out of 10 is not good.
