Hey
To all you good bowlers out there  I am looking for a new bowling ball so what would you suggest, I have not bought a ball in about 2 1/2 years and as you know bowling balls change as quick as computer gear :)

What I am looking for is a ball that can go through med-oil conditions and come in like a frigg'n train. I would ask the bowling ball driller dude but he will only suggest something that he has inhis little office there.

Thats why I am asking it here cause I am hoping that one of you can reply kinda quickly as I am going to check them out very, very soon...bty, my average is 189.

TIA.................................TP

Track Triton Elite, Tour Boss, Storm Thunder Road, AMF Angle, the original Hammer. Not necessarily in that order. :)

A 16 pound TE will definitely score some incredible pin action! They jump out of the way! :)

Cheers!

I just joined a league after not playing since '98. Man, I suck :p I am still using the same Rhino Pro reactive ball I bought in '96 or so.

There are several Track balls that will do what you want, it depends on how much you turn the ball.

Brunswick has a line called the Fuze, and they are good. If you can find a Brunswick X Zone that's undrilled somewhere, they are awesome. They came out 2-3 years ago, you can still find them new sometimes.
They reproduced the old Danger Zone this year, and they are considered by many to be the best reactive ball ever.

The old regular urethane balls like the Angles and the original Hammers are useless on today's lane conditions....you probably couldn't even make one hook.

I currently carry: 2 X Zones, 1 Danger Zone, 1 Ebonite Predator, Brunswick Monster, Brunswick Fuze Raging Red (a total turd so far), 1 new Track ball called the Thrash that's also a turd so far, and a few others that I carry just in case.

You need at least 4, plus a spare ball if you hook it much, if you're even thinking about getting serious.

Really? Unless lanes have changed a lot in the past two years, I don't think that would be a problem. Coast to Coast, baby! :p

I have a Quantum Jade that was pretty crazy as well...

Cheers!

The reactive and pro active balls hook so much more than plain urethane that they have to flood the lanes to keep them from hooking so much, so you end up hooking the ball about as much as the urethanes did back in the short oil days.
No way you could get more than 2-3 boards of hook from an original Hammer or Angle where I bowl. All a urethane is good for is a spare ball so you can throw straight at the 10 pin. (or 7 if you're a lefty)

Well, alright a fellow bowler :) the house I am at has 40 lanes, the low side (1-20) are real sweet but most of the high side has a lot of oil on it during league play so thats why I need a "Hooker".

If you aren't a cranker, you may want to try a pro active ball.....they HOOK. Bad thing is, most soak up oil and over time, lose some of the hook.

Example: The Ebonite Predator I currently throw is a couple of years old....it's a pro active ball, but when I first got it, it would hook out of the building.....I couldn't use it because it hooked so much. Now, 2 yrs later it's lost some of that immediate hook and works quite nicely on my league pattern.

I have about the same average as you.

I have a Triton Heat and a 2001 Hammer. I'm bowling on synthetic lanes so I don't use the Hammer much.

The Flipside balls from Columbia300 are a very good value. I throw about 15 revs/15mph normally and I track any ball pretty much 1 in. from fingers/thumb thru the middle of the ball. I bought a Flipside Wicked for $150/drilled and it is quite a piece of work. I'm getting older so I can't keep my ball speed up to fully utilize this ball on conditions where scoring is good or a tad dry. My 1st ball out of the bag EVERY day is my Columbia300 Gold Quake; it loves me and I love it. The arch is so predictable that I can walk off the approach when the ball hits 40ft. Another favorite of the bowling magazines is the Brunswick Inferno. This ball is explosive, period. Consider a Flipside WOW or a Brunswick Inferno for oily conditions. Other than that, any old reactive ball will do.

Toothpick, Look here

Pretty much as cheap as you'll find, all you have to do is pay your local shop to drill it for you. They shouldn't have a problem with that, drilling is pure profit.

i've been using a Storm Super Power Pearl for the past couple years. I've probably averaged a combined 190 between the 3 leagues i've bowled with it. I'm in the market for a new one. brother got a storm xfactor deuce and that thing has radar to the pocket and goes through the pins like a truck. bowlingballreviews.com

Practice, practice, practice. I never practice anymore due to time, but am still bowling pretty well. (just can't bowl craploads of games anymore) I used to practically live at the bowling center years ago.

1. really focus on your approach. most people have terrible approaches. they just walk up to the lane and chuck it which is fine if you don't care about bowling or just having fun. but to get better, practice a nice 4 or 5 step approach so your whole body is nice and fluid when you bowl.

2. learn to use the dots and arrows. I don't know if you hook at all but I don't even look at the pins when i bowl. In practice, I try to establish a mark in between all the dots to bowl from and try to throw it at a certain board/arrow on the lane. I adjust accordingly if I miss the pocket but once I find that spot that i'm hitting the pocket pretty consistently, I try to stick with it and do the same thing every time, i.e. same approach position + throw the ball at the same mark on the lane + same fluid release = strikes hopefully :)
