Right, so I'm looking for a book on the economics of the great depression. I have to give an informative speech for..... speech class.

I was thinking of just straight up reading a book on the subject. It's actually something I've always wondered about, so I might as well read up on it. The book shouldn't be too much of a bore to read, it would be great if it had some good statistics. The speech is a good month away so I have plenty of time.

Speech wise, it might be interesting to compare the economy then to the economy now. Just the basics, nothing fancy. Maybe only one component of the economy, who knows.

"Capitalism: the Unknown Ideal" by Ayn Rand is one of my favs on this subject. The part by Greenspan is ironic in hindsight, to say the least.

Books on the Economics are likely to be Pro or Con. I think a more Historical perspective is likely to give better balance to the situation, rather than the spin most current Books would add to it. I kinda view the New Deal kinda like dropping the Bombs on Hiroshima/Nagasaki. Perhaps not the best solution, but at the time and given the circumstances it really seemed like the only real choice.
