I'm still baffled that Windows Explorer still doesn't have this. What are some good alternatives out there that are free?

My Windows Explorer in XP shows folder sizes automatically. When folders are shown in the Contents pane, all I need do is place my cursor over the folder and a pop up windows displays the folder size.

Like thius:

That only works in the Contents Pane.

And, if you need more info, right click on the folder, select PROPERTIES, and it will tell you the size, how many files in it, etc. This works in either the Navigation Pane or the Contents Pane.

And, it works exactly the same way in Vista and Windows 7.

I hesitate to even mention this program - been using it and its ancestor forever - the most powerful file manager around. But, it is displayed in a format that might seem strange unless you have been around for a decade or two. <VBG>

I like Q-Directory myself, comes in handy at work when I have four servers to move data around in all the time.

Directory Opus is very good and has an incredible amount of configuration options. The only downside is the relatively high cost.
