Any good 5400RPM notebook HDs besides IBM Travelstar?

I'm looking for a reliable, not too expensive (no more than $150) 5400RPM 2.5" HD for my Compaq laptop. Right now it looks like the IBM Travelstar 40GNX is the best value on paper (40GB, 8MB cache, good noise/speed benchmarks, ~$150) but given my experience with IBM drives (two dead Travelstars, one Deskstar, and another Travelstar in my Compaq that seems to be making funny noises) I might be willing to sacrifice storage space for a different brand. Not sure what's good, I'd appreciate your suggestions. Thx

Sorry to hear about your luck. Personally, I wouldn't buy anything else. All my travelstars have behaved in an exemplary way. ;)

I bought a 40GB 5400RPM notebook drive made by Toshiba from Dell a while ago. I don't know if they still have it in stock. I don't think it is as fast as the IBM drives though. It has 16MB of cache but it doesn't seem like they wrote good firmware to take advantage of the extra cache.

I have a Fujitsu 60 GB 4200 rpm drive in my TiBook. Fast! Although not as fast as the 8 BM cache 5400 rpm IBMs.

I think it's fast enought though. I tried to get another but couldn't find one around here so I bought a Toshiba 60 GB 4200 rpm. Almost as fast.
