That are sufficiently cheaper than the iPad Pro to make them a value proposition over the Pro?

Uh.

The iPad Pro is a very special product, with a special pen and software that Android won't have. Either you need the iPad Pro because you need the special software or you probably don't need any iPad Pro.

Android really doesn't compete directly with the iPad Pro (the Pixel C is the closest thing), but Microsoft does with their Surface line. In fact many say (I agree) that the iPad Pro is a response to the success of Surface tablets.

Maybe the Galaxy Note Pro?

$650 vs. $800, so you're only saving $150. If you don't mind going the Chinese route, there are a bunch of designs from overseas for pretty cheap, like these ones:

You will never ever ever get any update on this tablet. I have the 8.4 and this line has been abandoned by sammy.

I should have listed my use case, but the morning's caffeine hadn't kicked in yet (sorry). In my case, it would just be for internet browsing/email and movies (Handbrake made). If I loaded any apps, there'd be a few but nothing fancy (like banking apps or maybe contour maps for hiking/fishing, etc... no games or anything like that).

I mentioned the Pro because it has the size I'd like but also the horsepower to last me (my use case) for quite a few years (no need for the pen/keyboard/etc..). Would prefer something in Android so as not to pay the Apple tax but if they want the same $$, I'd get the Apple.

For how much Apple charges for the iPad Pro (starts at $800), I'd rather get a Surface Pro 4 and dual boot Windows/Debian.

I gotta say, the Surface 3 with the Atom X7 is a pretty dang nice machine

I have the Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 and I'm not parting with it any time soon as it fits my needs. (Wacom pen, large size, great screen).

Much as I like it, I wouldn't recommend it since you want something future proof (Samsung has clearly abandoned it) and you'll still pay a lot for features you don't need like the pen.

If I were buying today I'd go for the ipad pro or the surface.

Personally I don't trust the Chinese ripoffs. Those things are fine for a cheap tablet you may need in a pinch, or for the kids to wreck anyway... but for future proof forget it. Most (in my experience) end up junk-drawered within a year.

$649 full warranty...

I did see that already (but thanks), plus Amazon has them for $712 or so as well. It's what got me wondering what prices on the Android side were.

Agree on the Chinese tablets - dicey on several fronts.

In Android 12 inch tablets aren't really a thing. Hell 10 inch tablets aren't really a thing either. 7-8 inches is the Android tablet sweet spot.

Teclast released Teclast TBook series 2in1 tablet, from 10.6 inch to 12.2 inch. Among them, Teclast TBook 12 is a 12.2 Inch tablet. Now Teclast TBook 11 and Teclast TBook 16 are in presale on geekbuying, gearbest and teclast-tablet, etc. The Teclast X3 Pro is the most powerful teclast tablet and the price is reasonable.
