Any Genome@home users looking for a new home?

Since Genome@home has ended, I figure some of you may be looking for a new place to crunch. Our D2OL team if furiously fending off the cows to retain our 1st place worldwide ranking! If you're not sure which project you want to jump to, you'd be more than welcome to help us out! Here's the blurb that is currently running on the AnandTech News page :

Now that our SETI Team has retaken the lead from Team Starfire, and also manage to pass HP on the same day, I'd like to point out another distributed computing project the TeAm participates in.

TeamAnandtech (TA) is currently the worldwide leader in total candidates submitted to (D2OL) (TM),

What is (D2OL) (TM) ?

The Drug Design and Optimization Lab (D2OL) (TM) works to discover drug candidates against the following diseases/threats:

Anthrax
Ebola
Malaria
SARS
Smallpox

How does (D2OL) (TM) work?

The (D2OL) (TM) software is downloaded to your personal computer and given drug candidates to evaluate. Once your computer receives tasks to execute, it begins a candidate evaluation process similar to finding the right key to fit into a lock. Distributed computing technology enables the process of sending hundreds of thousands of possible keys to all computing devices participating in the network. This site manages the results generated and returned to the network once you connect again to the internet. As a user, no intervention is required and the software executes as long as it is turned on, even when disconnected from the Internet. More information can be found here.

What is TA's history in the project?

OCT. 2002: TA launches it's drive for 1st place in the project.
JAN. 2003: TA reaches it's goal and claims 1st place..
APR. 2003: TA reaches 1,000,000 total candidates submitted.
OCT. 2003: The Dutch Power Cows (DPC) decide they no longer want to remain in 2nd place.
FEB. 2004: The DPC advertise on the front page of their board recruiting new members.
FEB. 2004: Over 200 new DPC members join the project, out producing TA, 2 to 1.
APR. 2004: At current production, TA will lose 1st place to the DPC.

As of March 8, 2004, Geoff's Stats Page indicate that we have 25.5 days left.

Many TA members have ran the client. Before the current version, both the client and server were erratic. Days would go by without new candidates being available for download, statistics would be unavailable for days on end, and support was non-existent.

Then, TRI (the people who run the project) took over management of the project from Sengent (the people who made the client). TRI then performed major server upgrades. Version 2.0 of the client is VERY stable and the user can now hoard 2000 candidates. The client and support provided is now rock solid.

How can you help?

1. Download the client HERE.
2. Run it..
3. Register it HERE and add your nodes (machines).
4. Then join TA's effort to put the DPC out to pasture.

It's as simple as that! 🙂

I ran Genome@home, and I just finished downloading D2OL.

Not that it had anything to do with this thread; it's been a long time since I ran G@H. But it's true nevertheless. 😀

OK. You got me. Ran G@H from its start, as dewedge (top TA member at G@H by > 2:1).

Recently rigged up a P4 (2.8 OC to 3.05) w/ dual channel DDR400. Would like to see how she flies on a nice DC project. Also have access to a few other CPUs.

Question on D2OL - can it be run from behind firewall through an http proxy?

Well heck, I'll just try it, unless I get an answer before I get there.

If I get real pysched onD2OL I'll fix my signature 😀
