Currently, we have a crappy set of vented logs that don't produce any noticable heat at all. Today, I had an installer come out, and he mentioned that we couldn't just put in unvented. It would cost $2700-3000 to redo the fireplace with unvented logs. Is this about right, or is this too much?
He said the reason it cost so much more is because our chimney isn't appropriate for unvented logs; it might catch fire. I thought the point of unvented logs was that they put the heat out, not up.
