Any games like BF2 but not BF2?

Since EA has killed BF2 with their horrible game-changing patches, and since I used to want to buy BF2, I'm wondering if anyone can help me find any other games that offer an experience similar to BF2, set in the same time and place and all, if possible.

Thanks for the help so far. I'm glad no one has flamed me for anything, at least yet.

I'll just go through what you said, one by one:

Joint Operations: Typhoon Rising -- potato28 says it sucks, and reviews for it look generally "average".

Day of Defeat: Source -- Actually, I probably am going to buy this one very soon. I do absolutely think it's awesome from what I've played of it (not too much), and it's not expensive. However, it's not really like BF2.

BF1942/Vietnam -- I downloaded and played all the demos of BF1942, and after playing BF2, it just feels like a massive backpedal. Everything is just "worse" in BF1942 when compared to BF2. I haven't played BFV since there are no demos of it, but it's probably similar to BF1942. In fact, most reviews say it's worse, and the fact that there is no demo is a little suspicious.

Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory -- Great for being free, but it doesn't have the scale of BF2. As for Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, I'd like to consider this one, but I don't like the whole "alien/monster"-looking thing, and this one seems more BF2142 than BF2.

Still, though, thanks for the suggestions, and I'm still looking for more! 😉

My main problem? You can't jump and shoot. It makes infantry combat useless, along with the other patches that changed how you behave outside of a vehicle.

That's actually one of the only changes I liked. The dolphin diving while shooting was getting way out of hand... BF2 was meant to be a little more realistic than other shooters, and shooting and jumping is pretty damn useless since it's so inaccurate. They just got rid of it entirely instead of making it horrendously inaccurate.

I'd prefer to still have the option to do it, though. I think it'd be better if it was simply inaccurate. I don't like having things taken away from me...😉

Only people with no skill did that to begin with 😉

It was more of a way from them to patch the hitboxes going apeshit crazy while jumping, going prone or laying down, without actually fixing anything.
 
Hey, only people with no skill couldn't kill someone doing that! Seriously, even if I wasn't diving, I'd like to jump out of a corner and shoot someone. In fact, I tried just that in the BF2142 demo and was sorely disappointed when I remembered what had been done to it (since the only thing I played before that was the BF2 demo).

Yeah I was gonna say, DoD: S is a great game, but it's not like Battlefield 2.

I've watched my bro play Joint Ops, it looked pretty sweet, and he likes it. Maybe he'll see this thread and elaborate on it.

I looked a bit and I haven't seen a US release date. It appears they haven't found a publishing company in the US yet.

Eastern Europe gets it in late November and other parts of the world say Q1 2007. I don't think there is anything firm on an online distribution system yet either.

so you've never bought BF2? how would you know about the gameplay if you haven't even played it?
 
I know the settings aren't even close but UT'04 with Onslaught Mode is a lot like BF2. Well at least IMHO 🙂
 
GoGamer is looking into importing it from the UK when it is available over there (not shown on their site yet).
