Any games for this ?

Have been playing quite a few games on the computer over many years and my favourite over the years has been command and conquers generals. Have any members here come across any good similar 3rd person games? Where you can command a section of troops, rather than for example, Delta Force where you command one person. Looking for believable combat, with the usual tanks, rockets, men, helicopters etc (not the futuristic ones). Definitely needs to be one where you can play others in the same house, either by multiplayer online, or possibly between computers in the same house.

Any help much appreciated.

Operation flashpoint - red river or dragon rising

That'll hit the "believable" combat...not sure about lan/coop though...look into it.

The original Company of Heroes perhaps. There are also Command an Conquer games that came out after Generals as well, but they got worse and worse as the series went along.

Company of Heroes is a recommendation I agree with.

World in Conflict is also an outstanding game. It also has LAN multiplayer available. Not sure about Company of Heroes, but I suspect it does.

Steam often has great sales, not sure if its cheapest place possible, but, they very often have great price.

This. European Escalation is quite good but not the end all game to me. There are lots of specific variants to very platform and while I like the idea of casualties influencing what you have available the idea that militaries would never cover any casualties does not seem realistic to me and a minor disappointment with the game for me.
