any opinions on the s9000?

after researching this camera, cant make a decision between stepping up to a dslr (probably canon rebel xt) or getting the s9000 as they are closely priced (at least in canada) but i would need to pick up an expensive collection of lenses to match the s9000.

thanks

i just had to make the same decision... I wound up with a Nikon D50... You're not going to get the same image quality with the s9000 as you would with a dSLR. I'd suggest that you pick up this lens which has worked nicely for me. If you shop around you might be able to find it for ~100. It'll tide you over till you can afford something more, and though I haven't tested the Fuji, I'd imagine it's comparable.

That and the kit lens should tide you over.

lots of things... image quality, the feel of the camera, resale value, upgradability, plus it's a great camera to learn on. It's my first dSLR and i'm finding it very easy to grow with

Best thing to do is to try out various cameras at your local camera shop and see which body feel comfortable in your hands, and base your deciscion up on that & price that you can afford.

A 70-300mm is equivalent to 105-450mm which is almost use less unless you are a cheap wild life photographer, paparazzi, or peeping tom. A better lens to have a is one that is greater than 24mm for cramp indoor quarter and for landscape shot.

If you want to get a good deal on that lens, get the 300 pack that includes that lens, a roomy nikon bag, a 2 year extended warranty for your camera, and an slr book for $150 from adorama.com

EDIT: And while the warranty says d70/d100, it will work for the d50 as well. My mom ordered hers for her d50 from adorama, and it included d50 on the card

why would that range be useless? i find it's great for taking pictures at the zoo, for my theatre photography, scenic pictures... it's probably my favorite lens
