things heavily depend on what department you'll be working in.
Does Fry's have ANYTHING other than computer stuff? I think NOT!
We live in the computer area...
ok you've obviously never been in a fry's. fry's is like the one place you can buy a new computer, cat-5 cable, playboy, condoms, and beef jerky and soda all in one place. lots of them have cafe's inside too.
there are five main depts: components, computers, software, audio/visual/appliances/telecom and service
components are all your computer parts, in addition to the world's largest collection of batteries. also reading lamps, tool kits, TOYS
computers are all your computer related items but not the internal components.
software is just that. software. but they also take care of dvd's, the books, the magazines, and the food is technically under them.
avt/appliances - your tvs, stereoes, appliances, telephones, cameras, in addition to your cd racks, desks, vacuums
service is just service on your computers, tv's, but mostly computers.
customer service (front check out and returns) is another dept on their own, but not involved in any direct sales.
wages: when i started there, it was at 6.50 an hour, and i went up to 7.00 once i was certified. (certified means that i passed a test about customer service in the front checkout. how to do this and that and what not. whenever you hear them yelling "customer service" they're looking for a certified individual who in theory can check over their work to make sure it was done correctly.)
for front checkout now they make 6.00 for base but they also make commission based on how much is rung up, i think like 2 bucks for every 1000 dollars. on a busy weekend i easily rang up over 10,000. that's just one day. imagine over the course of a month.
the other departments: most people work on commission. its a percentage of their sales. people who make the fattest commision were those in components as you CAN'T get anything without a quote. so its guaranteed sales there. next would be the high end things like cameras and some people did well in computers.
urm... your discount is cost + 10%. the smallest discounts are on computers themselves, a lot of the components. it just depends on what you're buying. obviously the highest markups are on cables (insanely high) and like fans... little things everyone marks up on. dvd's your discount will never be a lot. tv's some of them can be quite high... same with audio. you need to find a salesman in order to get your discount and then approval by a sup or manager.
uhh i don't remmeber what else. i only worked there about six months, and i was part time for about half of that. after six months you qualify for paid time off. after a year you get a week paid vacation. each year your stay on you get another week of vacation but its not paid. (i think) uhh you get paid each week.
