Any Freeware that will let me combine images?

I have somewhat big plot plans for my house, so I can only scan in parts of them in my scanner. I would like to put the parts together to make one big picture (big jpeg, etc.). Any freeware that will let me do this?

Simple tip - if you are joining pics horizontally, make sure that the vertical pix are the same in each picture - v.v for vertical joined pics. again very easy to do in IRFANVIEW -
yummy software - if only they made an operating system - it would fit on a floppy disk and do everything that vista does, without bugs and secure.

Again - what you might have to do, if for instance you have 9 pics to join in a square 3X3 is (for the sake of argument):
open the top 3 pics individually, resize them so that they have the same vertical measurements.
go into panoramic - join the photos
save
do the same for the middle and other row
then join the top, middle and bottom together (will have to make sure that all the scanned images have the same wXh to avoid stretching).
