Winrar keeps on running beyond the date though, it just pops up a message.

I just tried 7-zip again.. and was pleased that it now supports drag and drop. I still found it clunky for creating a new archive file..I probably just havn't gotten the feel of the program.

Just use WinRAR. You really don't have to pay anything for it. It'll let you use it beyond the date and it doesn't really bother you if you don't open up WinRAR it's self.

Winrar is not that expensive and you get Lifetime Upgrades, not like with
Stuffit or Winzip both of which charge for upgrades to the newer versions.

I don't mind paying a "reasonable cost" for a program if it will get lifetime updates

Winrar is indeed free to use; it's shareware, so there is a small window that opens which says to buy it, but its not time limited.

But for just opening Rars (and other archives), 7-Zip is great.

7zip is all I use, too. It's now multithreaded and there's a 64bit version, too. I don't see a reason to use anything else at this point.

Anybody else try ZipGenius? It's a nice program with a great amount of options and supports many formats including RAR. It looks good too.

I always just use the context menu to do stuff with WinRAR anyway.

Exactly. Never any annoying messages.

7-zip or winrar if you can live with the constant evaluation copy crap. though you will get used to that. trust me.
