Any 'Free' Handybits software (Easycrypto, Voice etc) is not 'free' of spyware

Just to give a small heads up that Handybits software (www.handybits.com) which includes Easycrypto and Handybits Voice both of which are recommended on many sites as a quality piece of spywarefree software - but it's not it includes Teknum Updater .

Teknum is quite a hassle to get rid of it - as it likes to reinstall itself (I'm not sure I'm clear after installing Easycrypto yet) but to check if you have it run Spybot. You'll need to disable system restore before you remove it. Also some registry editing might be necessary thereafter to get rid of it.

Teknum Updater is an update service consisting of programs used to keep software updated. It may also be marketed under the name HandyBits Update Service. The service contains an auto-update program, which installs automatic updates and software applications without any user interaction when the user's system is started. The updater can collect personal information that the user enters into forms.

I also understand it messes with system restore and removes previous restore restore points just for added annoyance factor.

In short this is a heads up to stay well clear of it. Moreover, don't listen to forum members saying it's nothing special and can be disabled with a disabler program as I've seen in forums. At a guess those are people involved with Handbits/Teknum spreading disinformation.

Just got rid of the final registry setting - there were quite a few.

Anyone know any good free encrypters? Is Cyphertainer any good?
