I have a pupil who accidentally deleted all her school work. So is there any free data recovery software for OSX?
 
Check out FileSalvage from SubRosa, it's not free but I think it has a trial.

Then, give your pupil 20 lashes for not having a backup. Tell her to go out and buy an external drive and to use Time Machine so this doesn't happen again.
 
paying for recovery software helps sting the student into not making the same mistake again. 🙂
