Any forseeable problems upgrading dual-core cpu?

I have a Gigabyte GA-MA69VM-S2 motherboard, flashed current, running AMD 64 x2 5000+ cpu with Win XP Pro(32). If I were drop in an AMD Phenom II x2 555 (also dual-core), I'm thinking there wouldn't be any need to change the HAL as they're both dual-core procs.

Sound correct? Anyone done such an upgrade before?

Am trying to avoid a re-install of OS as the softwares installed and user settings are rather intricate.

From my experience, upgrading the CPU doesn't require re-activation or anything. It is similar to adding RAM to your computer. These are normal upgrades. The one that really causes Windows to take notice is motherboard change, especially if you go to a completely different chipset.
