any "formula" for laptop depreciation?

Ok so I got this Dell Inspiron 8200 a year ago and I was wondering if it's possible to see how much it would be worth now. I paid $2200 for it then. Specs:

15" Ultra XGA-whatever (1600x1200)
128mb (I got 1gb of RAM free but don't add that to the calculations)
64mb GF 440Go
40gb 5400rpm
24x CD-RW/16x DVD-ROM combo
FDD
P4 1.6Ghz

Just curious how much it's worth these days. I probably won't get a new one for at least another year though.

search on ebay and see what they are selling for used...IMHO computer equipment has the worst resale out of anything out there so be prepaired for a large loss...

yep. search "completed items". that's how i figure out market prices.

or you could try AT FS/FT and see if there are similar laptops.

my bad yo. I don't even want to let go of it for at least another year or two. I know it's dropped down in price a lot so I'm just checking. I'll try ebay ty.

ok then how did you arrive at that number?

You can buy a brand new Dell Inspiron 2.2GHz P4-M w/256MB, ATI Mobility Radeon 9000, 40GB HDD, CDRW/DVD Combo drive for $1258. Your's is a year old, slower processor w/less memory. Check e-bay. You might get $900 for it but I seriously doubt that you would get $1200 for it when you can buy a brand new faster laptop for the same.
