I was wondering if I could get a critique of my AMCAS personal statement. A number of my friends have looked it over, but only one of them was premed. And I don't know anyone in medical school. I was hoping to get some advice from someone who has already been through the process.

I'm currently a Premed student at the University of Toronto. PM me with your personal statement if you want.

Premed too, though I'm going to take a few years off first, get my masters and stuff before going because I don't feel ready.

Don't send it to teh pre-meds. The majority of pre-meds don't make it to med school ;)...

I recall there being one or two here that were starting their residency.

WHat's so bad about the medical field? I mean it's a lot of work. After, it should be worth it. no?

You might get better responses if you ask "Anyone here have Asian/East Indian parents"

Yeah I think half my junior college claimed to be pre-med or pre-law...most didn't get even their 2 year degree.

You'd get responses, but they'd all say "Yes.. and they're assholes. They wont let me date and never give me hugs!"

Don't listen to him.
Stupid people filing bogus malpractice lawsuits are what is killing the profession. Yeah, good job you losers, sue the people that are making you better.

The main drawback is that you spend a crapload of time in school, and after you get out of school you spend an equally ridiculous length of time paying off med school bills.

However, if you are good at what you do, the possibilities for income are incredible.
I know hundreds of doctors and all are making from $120K-$2M a year.

I just got in.
I had to apply twice.

Does that mean u had to wait a year to apply the fall after?

Yeah.
I had shtty GPA and 29 MCAT and I am a white male and clearly not from a "disadvantaged" background.
It is a wonder I got in at all.
But, my interviews were all the max score plus max "added value" category.
