Any fixes to Windows 7's 59Hz bug?

A lot of people affected by this problem, me included.

Basically, in Windows 7 you can set the refresh rate for your monitor to 59Hz or 60Hz (among other options, but not the point right now), but when you set it to 60Hz, the setting resets itself back to 59Hz no matter what. Normally this isn't too huge a problem, but in some games it won't allow you to access certain options like vsync.

Here's a thread with plenty of people trying to deal with the problem: http://www.sevenforums.com/graphic-cards/1792-59hz.html

I only read the last few pages, but it seems apart from some unofficial fixes that may or may not work, there's nothing, and Microsoft doesn't give a shit.

I've got a 4890 with the latest drivers, and I have it properly set to 60Hz in the CCC, but the Windows side won't budge no matter what I do.

Any help? Thanks.

from what i've read it seems to be the way Win7 is reading your display device as some sort of tv compatible display.

have you tried changing the driver for your monitor, or setting it to generic "plug and play device"?

I've tried, but the drivers for my monitor, Dell U2410, are actually crap; they turn whites into greens in some applications, because the drivers are messing with the color management to match the monitor's calibration but it's not perfect and messes it up.

I uninstalled the driver and that problem went away, but the driver is back now for some reason.

Anyway I can revert it back to the generic plug and play device? I only have one ICC profile, the Dell one took over the plug and play one that was there originally. I'm hoping there's a driver I can download and install, but I wouldn't know where to look.

And I doubt that'll help the 59Hz issue, but I guess it's worth a try since I need to do it anyway.

Same "problem," monitor info on my samsung says it's receiving a 60 Hz signal, find something else to worry about.
